Regular cleaning is essential to prevent dust buildup and ensure your PC runs efficiently. Use a compressed air canister to safely blow out dust from fans, heat sinks, and other components without causing damage. Cleaning every few months, especially if your PC is under a desk, can significantly improve its longevity and performance.
Be sure to re-apply thermal paste on your CPU & GPU every 5 years or so. From the moment you receive your PC, both the CPU & GPU should have fresh thermal paste. Only after five years or if you replace the CPU cooler should you have to reapply it.
Ensure your PC is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Avoid placing it inside closed cabinets or tight spaces that can trap heat. Allow at least a few inches of clearance around the case for airflow, and keep the intake and exhaust vents unobstructed. Proper ventilation helps maintain optimal temperatures and prolongs the life of your hardware.
Always turn off your PC using the Windows shutdown menu or the power button on your case. Don’t unplug it or switch off the power supply to turn it off—this can cause problems with your PC over time.
Protect your PC from sudden power spikes or outages by using a high-quality surge protector or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Electrical surges can damage your components, especially the motherboard, power supply, and storage drives. A surge protector ensures a stable flow of electricity, prolonging the lifespan of your hardware.
